No one did catch the Scientology remark huh?

When carrey first attended the seminar...

Terrence says "come up here future yes man"..

Carrey says something like 'no thanks, I'm just auditing'

the crowd goes ooooooooooo

Terrence says 'you can't audit life my friend'.

I thought this was hilarious, a smack right in the face of Scientology BS'ers.
And a brilliant way of injecting it into the movie without going to far. Seems scientology is suing everything in their path. Everyone is just scared of commenting on scientology.

For those that don't know, auditing is a technique used by scientology. Like terence said, you cant audit life my friend. YES!

reply

You audit courses in college. That's when you attend the classes, but don't actually participate in the tests or get a grade. I'm pretty sure that's what was meant.

reply

Lol, true..but auditing is greatly used in scientology. Given the fact it's a seminar lead by one man..including masterson being a former scientologist, its a safe assumption a smack to scientology.

reply

Except that the way the term audit is used in the movie is more in line with its use in reference to attending a class without getting credit than it is with the way it is used in Scientology.

And isn't Masterson still a Scientologist?

reply

i agree with timberwolf.

Yeah, Natura, you're pretty much a moron.

Also, more of a moron if you think any other religion isn't just as bogus.

reply

And Jay, even more so if he thinks having "no religion" is actually not a belief system in itself. You <sarcasm>intellectual</sarcasm> religion-haters are so lame and gullible.

reply

It is clearly a perfect example of a double entendre....

ain't you uppity opinionated folks edumacated?

reply

Actually it is not a double entendre dumbass. The Scientology term is "auditing," not "audit." Scientology simply uses auditors to carry out auditing processes.
Secondly, you are calling everyone else "uppity" in the same sentence where you claim educational superiority above everyone else. Think before you make these kinds of comments, it makes you look like the uneducated, arrogant moron.
Lastly, do you really think that a thread involving religion will be free of opinionated remarks? If any topic is going to spark such debate it is religion…dumbass (calling you a dumbass once just wasn’t enough).

reply

You would think that someone with the name "split photon" would be agnostic or atheist... Since 93% of scientists in the American Academy of Sciences are...

There is a massive massive difference between following organized religion like a sheep and having your own set of beliefs or values.

Power corrupts. Scientology is most likely the corrupt religion there is. I'm shocked that it isn't outlawed here. Look up operation "snow white" -- That alone should be enough.

reply

And you, most of all, if you think "religion" and "belief system" are interchangeable.

reply

[deleted]

Actually ladym00s, you top them all; he never implied that they are interchangeable, he simply stated that religion (or lack thereof) is a belief system. It is pretty hard to argue against that, however it is true that not all belief systems are necessarily based upon religion; but when did he ever say they were?

reply

[deleted]

religion (or lack thereof) is a belief system. It is pretty hard to argue against that

If disbelief of something can be termed as a belief system then 'not collecting stamps' can be termed as a hobby.

lol Brilliant...I love that.

reply

First off, Jay is saying all religions are BS; just letting you know that you were responding to a so called “religion hater,” but I do agree with you that the one’s lack of religion is a belief system in itself. But I must admit I am one of those that lack religion in my life and for good reason too....

People who depend upon religion to answer all of life's questions are lame in my opinion, and quite honestly too naive to understand what religion is actually doing to them. Religion robs people of their liberty and arbitrarily restricts their freedom in the sense that one’s judgment is no longer contingent solely upon their discretion but now guided by some capricious religion. Are you so blinded by the false comforts that religion gives you to see the big picture or see that life has a deeper meaning?

Every heard of logic? Maybe you are too stupid to understand reason and therefore you depend upon your religion to tell you what is right and wrong. Do you understand what your creed is based on? Do you actually believe your religion entirely and find it completely full of truth, or are you simply placated by its’ ability to free you from your problems and screwed up life? Ever notice that the only people who seek god or religion are those who are either messed up on drugs or are too stupid to find any meaning in their life and have no other choice. And those who are raised with a religious background only hold on to it if they are ignorant and lack the will power to break free from the religion and seek their own meaning in life. When you are young it is understood that you will be more susceptible to your parent’s influence as they brainwash you into a world in which all you know is religion...however when you are old enough to see the big picture, it is those who lack the resolve and logical intelligence who continue to embrace their religion as a guidance in life. It’s okay though, I know you can’t help the fact that you are stupid....

reply

I believe Masterson is still a scientologist,

unless you have any evidence to the contrary

reply

Just admit it NaturaTek, you didn't think of the term audit in the context of education and class rooms. It's ok to be wrong every now and then; you only look more stupid when you continue to argue when you know you are wrong.
By the way, the Scientology term is "auditing," not "audit." Although simple grammar would lead you to believe that they would use the stem "audit" as a verb, as in "...to audit someone..." or in other uses, however Scientology does not for whatever reason. Scientology simply uses auditors to carry out auditing processes.

reply

I love how 3 pages in people are still discussing religion when it should have stopped after TimberWolf's first message, unless people wanted to say, "You sure are right, TimberWolf. The first poster is wrong," and so on, and so forth.
Auditing classes means you attend the class, you generally haven't paid for the class, you don't take the tests, you don't get the credit. It's for personal information only. . . Pretty common. . . Not sure how this got confused. . .

reply

Had to laugh at the clowns demeaning your comments. I think the writers are generally having a go at self development including Scientology and EST/WEA? Good insights Fella

reply

I'm sure you're the only one who got the reference. You're a genius.

reply

Science and religion both only go so far, and neither have been succesful in answering the big question - what came first, the chicken or the egg?

However, science has so far proved alot of things. Take for example the field of medical science. Amazing stuff.

Religion has proved nothing, except for how "blindfully" powerful it can be.

It's unexplanitory how I getz wicked, but it's mandatory that I kick it!

reply

How did this get from Scientology, aka not a real religion, to real practiced religions? I don't get it?

And you'd think since Scientologist are so up tight, one wouldn't act in a move that blatantly or even slightly talks down about them.

Y was he the last man?

reply

How is Scientology not a religion? Sure sounds like one to me and a far as I know it is recognized as one legally in America. Not to mention it is called "The Church of Scientology." Do you know what a church is?
Secondly, why wouldn't people "talk down" about Scientology? If people don't like something and have an opinion, they're gonna let you know about it...it's called human nature. Politicians are uptight and that doesn't stop anyone from blatantly talking crap about them....
I am not a Scientologist or even religious for that matter but I enjoy playing the devil's advocate.
By the way, a.k.a. is an acronym for "also known as," so think before you type.

reply

So I'm interested kArMa457.. What IS the BIG picture and the deeper meaning you speak of? What is it all about?

reply

I hope you're not stupid enough to infer that Scientology is based upon science…because you are little bit out of context here buddy.

reply

Hmm. And then Jim Carrey joins the Yes cult and spends the rest of the movie acting like super-Tom in that leaked promo.

Not a very effective smack in the face, is it?

reply

I find it hilarious that the movie Yes Man sparked a heated theological discussion. George Lucas hates all of you.

reply

hahahahaha....jesus

reply

I think you've taken this too literally. Audit has more meaning than just referring to scientology. Audit as a word has been used way before all the major following of sicentology came along. Its better taken as a way of saying "don't just observe life...by a part of it...be IN it" Its much more empowering and interesting as a piece of writing taken this way.

reply

I think you are over thinking it.Not to be mean.

reply

Why give scientology more publicity than it deserves? Geezzz

Auditing goes WAY back to college courses you could AUDIT (pay, attend but get no grade for doing so.)

Enrique Sanchez

reply

Ummm...how about this. This is directly from a dictionary.

AUDIT: to attend (a course) as an auditor

AUDITOR: 1)one who attends an academic course to listen but not receive credit 2) a hearer;listener

"Auditing" in the context of Dianetics or Scientology is an activity where a person trained in auditing listens and gives auditing commands to a subject, who is referred to as a "preclear".

I believe the movie was referring to him just "listening". The poster below who said that the Church of Scientology sues over stuff like that is absolutely correct. Jim Carey is not just funny. He is also very smart. He has a lot to lose (about 150 million dollars). Not to mention how many Hollywood higher ups would be offended. I would personally be very sad to see something happen to him due to the fact that he and Jeff Daniels are currently working on "Dumb and Dumber To" due out in 2014 for the 20th anniversary of Dumb & Dumber!
