Yes Man says YES to stereotypes. Shame on Jim Carrey.

As a Canadian and part of a very multicultural society, Jim Carrey should be ashamed of himself for going along with a ridiculous portrayal of Iranian women in this film. Persian mail-order brides? The racism in this movie is ridiculous.

It's a comedy. ...It's okay to have stereotypes in a comedy.

reply

let's ban any sort of laughter that stems from something to do with race!

... fvckin canadians

(see what i did there? lol)

reply

I agree. Horrible, horrible film.

OP is absolutley of his/her rocker.....They had to use the word 'Persia' instead of a real country as to not offend. There IS such a thing on the internet, people DO want to come to America because of its liberty and economic opprotunism. The woman depicted was wearing a classic ethnic dress (quite refined by the way) and spoke well, and you call that 'ridiculous'? Should everyone in the world wear blue jeans and go to Starbucks?

The only thing that could be construde as offensive is the TRUTH in regonizing that there is NOT a American order mail-bride system in other countries. There is a very good reason for that.

I didn't even pick up on any racial tendencies - it was all in good dun! If it was so bad, the actress wouldn't of done it in the first place I guess

It's just a movie, it's a comedy! Why have to take all these things so personal??
C'mon! Jim Carrey is a great actor, and as far as I know, an excellent person!
Get a life!

Great reply. Made my day.

is that a sacastic response or do you not realise persia is a place (iran)

FYI - Persia was the name of the country that Iran is,Iran is the ancient name of Persia. If you talk to someone from that era prior to 1979, that person referred to that country as Persia!

Was she really a mail-order bride? I thought they had met on some sort of bride-finding website, not that he had actually mail-ordered her. And I'm pretty sure they weren't married.

But yes, the racial humour in this movie is incredibly lame. It wouldn't be so offensive if it was actually clever or funny, but sadly it is neither...

reply

There WAS no racial humor. The reason you didn't find it funny is because it didn't exist and was only in your humorless head.

reply

My "humorless head" is creating non-existent jokes? That makes no sense.

Anyway, clearly the racial humor just went right over your imperceptive head.

CONGRATULATIONS! You have just been awarded the LAMEST THREAD on all of IMDB!
What the hell you people smokin'? Morons

I thought the scene was pretty funny. He seems to treat her well enough when he has a scene with her.

Why is everyone so quick to fire the word racism? Doesn't it mean the belief of superiority of ones race over another?

Where have you seen this in the movie? People now and days don't even recognize racism, and if they do they don't have the cojones to do anything about it.

Jim Carrey is from Canada, land that is rich in culture and people from around the world!

Maybe the Americans should be able to make fun of only the Americans.

Mr Bigg,

The discussion is on a scene from the movie. Not that uncommon on IMDB..

Morons?.. Do you get off by calling people on the internet names? Like holy buddy, this was a serious debate till you came in.
