Minor hiccup in an otherwise enjoyable flick !

When Carl was throwing bridal shower he invited his ex and her boyfriend..Ok he wanted to invite as much people as possible and she had the courtesy to attend it..But later when his ex calls him for help when is dumped her boyfriend Carl just says no to sex..Fine she left him for someone before but at least he could have stayed there for a little while just to comfort her..That scene makes him look selfish and bad..The purpose of that scene was to show audience that he has learnt to say 'no'..Film makers could have chosen some other way to show it

The purpose was filled; If he had said yes to jer proposal, he would've betrayed Allison and even furtheres the rift between if she ever found put about it. We are clearly shown that he does indeed love her despite his obligation to say yes to her (Allison).

I thought it was an effective scene. We assume his ex wasn't such a great person, and we further assume she's an opportunist (especially the way she throws herself at Carl after 3 years of no contact... just because she got dumped). So I think Carl let her off easy by simply saying 'no' and leaving politely.

Not to play gender politics, but my point would be more obvious if an a-hole guy calls up his girlfriend after 3 years and wants to sleep with her just because he got dumped earlier that night. Regardless of gender, it's a really manipulative and selfish move.
