AGE DIFFERENCE-- hello?!!?

ANyone else find it bizarre to see Zooey playing opposite Jim? I mean he's like 25 years older than her! She should have been dating Jim Carrey's young friend. Why did they cast him as if he was 30? Totally bizarre.

Nobody above 25 years old gives a *beep* about age differences anymore, because you realize at some point that age doesn't matter, the core of a person's personality stays the same. So grow up.

I'm 19, and my husband is 43. I have never met anyone whom I get along with better.....
Big deal.

Well, as they say in the tampon biz, see you next period.

I noticed this. But, figured that its one of those planned Hollywood movie strategies to net a wider audience reach? Far fetched or not?

Really, I didn't care about the age difference. The actors had good character chemistry. I could see these two in real life actually connecting.

Like you've never ever had any infatuating crush on someone way older than you, ever? Hmm, maybe I'm in the minority then.

You see this all the time in mainstream movies--aging leading men are paired with young, beautiful women. It wouldn't bother me so much except that you rarely see the reverse. If an older woman is dating a younger man in a movie, it's at the very least an elephant in the room--if she isn't made to look pathetic or used as the butt of a joke.

It wasn't too noticeable in Yes Man because Jim Carrey's character could have been 30 as far as the plot was concerned, and in terms of his personality. I mean, look how excited he gets at the prospect of being promoted to a position that could land him a $65,000 salary. That would certainly be great for a single man who's still in his twenties or early thirties, but for a guy in his mid-forties who's been working the same job for two decades? I don't think it would be that exciting.

An age gap for a couple bothers me far less than not seeing enough actresses of 45+ in a leading role. For every Sandra Bullock there's 10 Jim Carreys.

But yeah- I too was immediately struck by "Nah- he's too old for her". Should've had Bradley Cooper in the role.

reply

Exactly, Midgegirl.

I smell some jelly feminists in this thread. Men care about looks, women about personality/(sometimes money) and therefore men can get young women.

Women dont care if youre 10-20-30 years older if you have a fun personality and take care of her.

"Totally bizarre," sure. As if older man/younger woman couples aren't extremely common in the real world and always have been. Hard to fathom someone being so naive as to get worked up over seeing it happen in a movie.

If you want totally bizarre, try the scene where he's letting the old lady blow him. Now there's something that generally only happens in freaky fetish porn. But you don't have a problem with that, right? Sweet little old ladies need young dick too. Especially when entitled millennial feminists start reaching retirement age. =P
