18 year difference between the two leads, and a 20 year difference between Carrey and his toothless old neighbor. One relationship is acceptable and one is disgusting. Blame society.

Whats gross about the old neighbor is that, she is elderly. Carrey is older then Deschanel but he isn't elderly, plus he didn't fall in love with his neighbor then see her grow old, he just saw her old. Plus i think his character is supposed to be a bit younger then he actually is. if a 25 year old can play a high school student then he can play a person in his late 30's (ten years older then Zooey). Plus i know people in their 0's still have sex, and nothing is gross about that.

I can't believe some people still think Jim can pass for early 30s, wow people must be really ragged where they come from. Jim Carrey ACTS younger than he is but he truly looks every minute of his age. Compare him to 44 year old Kristin Davis, he is looking OLD.....but at least if SHE (Kristin) was his co-star at least it would have looked a bit better and please don't tell me that because she is older that she can't portray 'carefree and adventurous' can you PLEASE check your societal prejudices? People think that a woman over 30 will be so preoccupied with settling down that she wouldn't be free and adventurous? It doesn't make sense, Zooey's character wanted to move in with him and he bolted, she is a normal girl who probably wants to settle down and be conventional but right now she is young and can wait, wouldn't it have made more sense to have a older character who was a unconventional woman all her life? The type of person who doesn't want to live a traditional life?

I just think to sooth Jim C. ego they missed a great opportunity.

I could not agree more.

I would have loved to have seen him with a strong adult woman, one who had seen and lived an exciting and diverse life....a little hippi-like if you want.

Jim carey is old...and looks old. He was funny in "Inliving color"..after that he became a victim of hollywood.

Magic I don't think you are getting the point here, I don't think it looks pervy nor do I think Jim C. looks like he is elderly. I just said that he is CLEARLY quite a few years older than her and the fact that it was not mentioned (where in RL you know it would have been) was silly and unrealistic. Furthermore, as someone has already stated, it is taking a job away from an actress who is actually within his age range.

If they don't want people to notice how old their leading man is, don't pair him with a woman two decades younger. It SHOWS!!!

I don't think age matters once a person finds that special someone and it just clicks. I am 10 years older than my husband, and we have been together for 13 years and three daughters.
Charlie Chaplin was 62 when he married his wife Oona who was just 18 (that one I would have said something)lol. They were married for nearly 40 years and they had 8 children.

I dispute your numbers. If they were married for 40 years he would be 102 when he died.
However he died in 1977 when he was only 88. That computes to 26 years of marriage, not 40. :)

They were married from 1943 to 1977. They were married 34 years. I was of about 6 years. Not too bad from doing it from memory.

He doesnt look 47 at all. zooey does look younger than 29. what's funny is that their birthday is on the same exact day.
