Not among the nine finalists being considered for foreign film Oscar

Why am I not surprised?

The Best Foreign Language Film category is so screwed up. Each country gets to submit one film - and one film only. From the films submitted, the number is reduced to nine, and eventually to five candidates. Personally, I thinkeach country should be allowed to submit more than one movie; there's too much chance of a good film being left out of the list otherwise.

France choosed 'The Class' to represent them months ago, not 'I've loved you so long' so ....

It's a nice thought, but the problem is that the committee that whittles the submitted films to the nine nominee-candidates (technically, six nominee-candidates; a separate body chooses an additional three) has to screen every film, and there are usually 70 or so films submitted by the October deadline.

If two submissions from each country were allowed, you're asking each and every committeemember to commit him or herself to watching 130-150 films in a three-month (90-day) period. Okay, maybe you could move the deadline up to mid-year, but still...150 films. In what—180 days? That's a lot to ask of people.

I agree with that; if more than one actor from the same movie can be nominated in the same category, then why not more than one foreign from the same country?
