okay now I'm really starting to hate the oscars

I'm pretty young and I've read posts about how the Academy is completely unfair and don't recognize the people who really deserve it.
But i never really understood it, until this year when they completely robbed Sally Hawkins and Kristen Scott Thomas!!!

I'm glad Melissa Leo got a nomination, but KST and Sally Hawkins had the best 2 female performances this year. What an absolute joke the oscars have become.

Oh, and how about Ron Howard over Christopher Nolan for best Director? Ridiculous!

Ron Howard did a fine job directing Frost/Nixon and deserved the nomination. The real travesty was the nomination of Stephen Daldry over Chris Nolan. Stephen Daldry is a great director but The Reader wasn't his finest hour and he didnt deserve the nomination

The Class is fantastic but for me this was so much better, much more intense and rewarding but then maybe that's just me!

Couldn't agree more - taking the Oscars too seriously AND how they could POSSIBLY nominate Angelina Jolie!! While I did enjoy her movie - as an ex-makeup artist -- the makeup for that time in the century was waaaaaaaay off base! I'm not sure how she got the part. And frankly, I can't take her as a serious actor - I keep seeing Girl Interrupted in all she tries . . . and that wasn't all that grand of a performance - hence the fact we can't take the Oscars too . . .

I loved this film - the slow moving layers being revealed. I didn't have an issue with the ending either - I think it summed it up rather well. She did what she thought was the right thing to do & took her punishment. The actress playing her sister, yes, was amazing as well as KST. Loved it!

I didnt expect it to do well at the Oscars as I dont know how widely seen it was in the States ..... plus a French performance won Best Actress last year as already mentioned .
The BAFTAs however should have known better and should be ashamed .
