It's "Dis, quand reviendras-tu ?" (Say, when will you come back), a song originally written and performed by Barbara, sung here by Jean-Louis Aubert who also wrote the film score.

shareThis one rang some bells with me too. The movie I thought of was the 1987 film "Broadcast News". The song was sung by none other than Albert Brooks. Not sure it's the same one, though. I'll have to dig that one up and give it a listen again.
