divorce + kidnapping questions

When did Juliette & her husband divorce? Because of the death? Prior to the death, but not much before? Or had they been divorced for some years?

The timing of the divorce might account for why her relatives, friends, etc. wouldn't know her son was ill - the boy may have been separated from these people if he spent a lot time with his father, if his father had primary custody for some reason, or if Juliette kept the boy secluded from a lot of people so she could share as much time as she could with the boy.

The idea of 'kidnapping your own child' also usually comes up more often post-divorce when visitation provisions aren't being followed. I couldn't tell if Juliette was accused of kidnapping close to her last visit to the 'green house' or if she'd had the boy alone for quite awhile so that again other people wouldn't have seen how ill he was becoming.

I think it is an excellent film regardless of this plot hole. It is also possible that relatives, friends, etc. still knew the boy was ill, but not so close to dying and either way would not condone euthanasia; Lea seems to remember practically nothing of her childhood & teenage years so even if she were told back then that her nephew was ill, the seriousness of that illness outlined on the medical notes she finds as an adult could be shocking.

I thought she was being sarcastic when she said others used the term kidnapping. I thought she was intimating that you can't kidnap your own child.

"Seriously, lighten up, if you don't like it, just let it go and move on to the next film."
