Whats the big deal about subtitles?
Here where i live all the movies have subtiutles, only movies for kids are dubbed. I prefer it that way in fact, i hate dubbed movies.
Subtitles should NEVER get in the way between you and a movie.
I hate dubbed movies too! Nothing irritates me more than when mouths and words do not match up. I hate that!! I think that if someone doesn't want to read subtitles, then they should go to a movie in a language they understand or wait for the DVD.
shareI think the point might be people are no longer afraid of foreign movies, a little reading is no big deal anymore. I never thought about "texting" being part of it, but it makes sense. And yes, dubbing should be outlawed imo. ;p

I speak French as a second language but I still watched the movie with English subtitles. Often they spoke too quickly for me to understand, as I'm not a native speaker.

shareI don't know if there has been some confusion by the previous poster here about what 'dubbing' refers to, but I do know a Spanish friend of mine (from Madrid, speaks English as a second language) didn't realise the difference between 'dubbing' and 'subtitles'. It was like the Spanish equivalent to 'dubbing' was 'translating' or something, so we had to explain the distinction.
