While watching the film, I kept trying to construct in my head a rough timeline of the past events...and my brain hurts. It seems like there has to be at least 15-20 years between them, but then other things don't match up (the story about going to eat cake together after dance class.) How could Juliette be an MD with a 6 year old, yet Lea was only a kid when Juliette euthanised her son? Lea looks like she's in her mid30s and she's a prof with two kids of her own. Yet Juliette was only in prison for 15 years?
Lea was a teenager when Juliette went to jail--this information is given early in the film. I think the difference is 8 to 10 years, though it's never explicitly stated.
yeah the age difference is about 10 yrs. Lea was in her late teens when pierre died; which would have made juliette in her late 20s (a plausible age for a docter w/ a young child).
I'm glad I'm not alone. The writer didn't think this through. If Juliette was 28 when this happened, that means she was 22 when she had her son. When did she become a doctor? If there is a 10 year difference between her and Lea, then that would mean Lea was 18 when the deed happened. How do you brainwash an 18 year old? I can see someone younger, but at a certain age, you do what you want, even if you do it quietly. Your parents don't have to knnow what you are doing.
I don't think the writer really thought this through.
i assumed about a 15 yr diff. i assumed kst/juliette is about 45yo now, went to prison at 30, had the son at 24...was a struggling young doctor?? but that meant that lea was 15 when juliette went to prison and was even younger when juliette went off to university and married. my mum is the youngest of 11, with there being 16yrs diff in age btw her and the eldest child. she was 2 by the time her eldest sibling went off to uni, so they never lived together. i assumed she'd come visit or the dance classes could've happened during a range of ages. so lea could've been three/four years old being picked up from dance class by her 17/18/19/20 yr old older sis....who knows....
Some people call it a Cul-de-sac. I call it a Dead End
