Well, we should've seen this coming, I suppose.

So far we have 11 good reviews from critics. 2 mixed reviews and 1 bad one. Looks like footloose will get good reviews just like Karate Kid and Fright Night remake. Sweet. I knew the director of hustle and flow would not let us down.

reply

The Karate Kid remake was god awful. Jackie Chan was the only good thing about it, and he was hardly featured in the thing (as the entire movie centered around Will Smith's decidedly unlikable child).

Good to see this movie getting what it deserves, bad reviews.

Well said!!

The Karate Kid remake wasn't so bad. Perhaps because I don't care about the original. I do agree though that Jackie Chan was by far the best thing in it. What I find very, highly pathetic about this remake is that it's called "The Karate Kid" -- karate, a Japanese martial art -- and it's about freaking kung fu, which is all from and about China! How dumb can they get??

Early Boxoffice tracking has it doing around mid to high 20s. It budget is only 25 million so it will be a hit for sure.

So we can look forward to another one in a year.....f-ing kill me now

This movie in my opinion didn't need to get made since they bascially duplicaed 75% of the scenes, dialogue and songs. The lead actor Wormald's Boston accent kept going in and out...TERRIBLE, he lacked the charisma of a Kevin Bacon and was out of his element as my understanding he's a dancer. Huge insult to Chris Penn as the actor who played his character obviously watched his performance and duplicated it. Acting or mimicry? I had no intention of seeing this movie but had to as part of a business function. Not a pleasant experience.

reply

Well your entitled to your opinion, no matter close minded how it be you apparently didn't do your homework on this one. This reason why it was duplicated so much was the director wanted to pay homage to the oringial. Furthermore Dean Pitchford, writer of the oringial oversaw the script's remake. As for Chris Penn vs. Miles Tiler's Willard, two totally different performances.

I will admit I didn't like Lori Singer, so Julianne has to be an improvement. She is a terrific dancer. I think the film will be a hit with two generations who never saw the original one. I hope I'll like it.

reply

Wow, that guy got a lot of the facts wrong about the movie in his scathing review. I wonder if he actually saw it... I'm thinking he didn't.

reply

Which "facts"?

reply

I couldn't agree more, especially because Footloose was a staple of the 80s, you should never try to remake it for 2011. Compare this to the new "The Thing" at least the guy behind directing "The Thing" has respect for the 1982 John Carpenter original so he made his a prequel. Perhaps whoever directed this disgrace should've took that in mind, you don't take a "rare well aged liquor" that is Footloose 1984 with such symbolism (example the opening with the dancing feet) and pour club soda in it. Not to mention covering "Lets hear it for the Boy" is such a disgrace and goes side by side w/Britney's cover of Bobby Brown's "My Prerogative" as the worst covers ever.

reply

1982 John Carpenter film, "The Thing", was a REMAKE!

I know, right? Who is this guy? Seems to be popular with the 50+ comments his review received.

reply

I haven't seen it yet but watching the Trailers two things are obvious. The Dancing is much better the acting is much worse. Could it be because they hired a dancer rather than an actor to play the lead?

reply

i didn't bother reading it this person has no clue what he or she talking about
