Where was Bomont in the original film?

In this film it's in Georgia, yes? I read a review that said that one change that was made was moving Bomont from the West to the South.

I thought the original Bomont was Texas, no? Can anyone tell me?

If memory serves it was definitely in Texas.

In the original, it takes place in Bomont, Illinois. The film was SHOT in Utah.

In the remake, it takes place in Bomont, Georgia. The film was shot in Georgia as well in Fall 2010.

Really, Illinois?? I completely thought it was the South. Thanks for the clarification.

Actually the state was never identified in the original film. The filmmakers deliberately kept it vague.

The "Illinois" reference probably refers to the Illinois plates on Ren's Beetle. He and his mother had moved to Bomont from Chicago.

It's clear from the clothing and the backgrounds that the setting is somewhere in the American West (you just don't get mountains that big East of the Great Plains), but nothing more specific than that.
