This was better than the 1st one.
That doesn't happen to many times where the remake is better than the original.

shareUmmm, I respectfully disagree. This movie did not hold a candle to the original. Music wise, script, direction, acting....just about every category.
shareI never saw the original footloose but I thought that this film was actually pretty good.
shareMy one complaint was that this version was missing the song "Heaven Helps the Man." That was my favorite song from the original. I would highly recommend that song to anyone who hasn't seen the original.
shareI think the remake script was actually better. The plot and dialogue made more sense but -- the acting, dance scenes, and music weren't as good -- those are what make the cheesier, original version superior.
shareTotally agree. It was just a good, fun movies w/ good acting, good music and pretty awesome dancing. Why not judge it on its own merits rather than judge it based on the original, which was also pretty good. Some people just hate remakes and dis them whenever possible. Other really good recent remakes are True Grit, Straw Dogs and Fright Night. Now let's have a remake of the Breakfast Club.
shareFor some reason the overall theme and message was made clearer to me in the remake. Also I liked some of the changes they made, overall it was a good update.
shareI appreciated what they did with Ren's mom or what they didn't do because it gave him more reason to be angry and more reason to want to fight for something he believes in.
shareI respectfully disagree. As someone who grew up in the 80's, I just don't believe any remake of 80's movies can have the same effect as the original. I'm not going to bash this version ... but I definitely prefer the original.

Footloose belongs to the 80s when communism was still endangering our security and lifestyle. And now, they should make one to fit terrorism, aka "Screwloose".
