Say no to this remake
So glad I waited for it to come on TV. If I would have payed money to see it, I'd be mad as Hel*

shareOriginal is and will always be my favorite version, but this was pretty harmless and did no injustice to the original (in my opinion). Actually one of the better remakes that I've seen, though I didn't like Julianne Hough at all.
shareHarmless, but didn't add anything, which is the real downfall imo.
I too am glad i didn't spend money on this,
I don't hate remakes on principle - I've defended them when they are good. But I think if you do a remake you shouldn't just repackage the same movie, you should reinvent it a little, make it relevant for today, give it something new and fresh.
The Footloose remake swapped out a few things like a bus race instead of tractor chicken, Ren works at a cotton mill rather than a flour mill, etc. But they didn't give any new meat to the story. It's essentially the same movie but with tartier clothes and dancing. And Footloose, the original, was just a celebration of the music and dance culture of the 80s - the remake just doesn't have the same spark.
They could have made it a full on musical, added or changed the story some to make it something new and different. I don't know exactly what, but then, that's why I'm not a screen writer, right?
Exactly cupcakery. I am watching it now, and i dont think this remake was necessary. The new soundtrack is uninspired (i dont like most of the remakes). There is not enough new or updated to make this worth paying for. Tho i did like he new willard . . .

It's not as bad as I was expecting, but most viewers could just as well watch the original version. All this scene-for-scene update really adds is sluttier girls and more strangely talented dancers in a small rural southern town where dancing has been banned for years. The point is more or less to sell box office tickets to a younger generation of kids based on the success of the original.
