I thought the scene of Ren dancing in the warehouse in the original was much better. The song they used fit perfectly. The song in the remake didn't really fit and it wasn't that good in my opinion. The warehouse scene in the original was my favorite part.
Wow! I couldn't disagree more, but to each their own! lol I didn't like the music for that scene in the remake. My teenage sons didn't like it either. A different song would have made the scene more tolerable.
You didn't like the song, but you thought the scene was done better in the remake? I loved the scene in the original. I thought Kevin Bacon did an amazing job. Kenny Wormald was good in his own way, but I just thought Kevin Bacon was better.
My son said that the emotion in the remake was shown better or more clearly.
There's really not anything about the remake that I like BETTER than the original. If we look at the remake and try not to make comparisons between it and the original -- just look at the 2011 movie on its own, then it's not a horrible movie. I just didn't like the combination of the dance style and the song used in the warehouse scene. To me, they just didn't seem to complement each other.
If they had used a different song, it would have worked better. The anger the dancing expressed (along with the flashbacks to what made him angry) conveyed the feelings the character was experiencing much better than the original. But, the song just didn't work for me.
The song from the original was the one thing I was looking forward to in this movie. "I'm free" was the only hit song from the original not to be remade. If you're going to remake something, you really need to keep the best part.
Also, the Kenny Loggins video for "I'm free" is worth seeing as well.
I don't know about embarrassing, but yes, very awkward. It almost looked funny. Not funny haha, but funny strange. The song was all wrong. I'm actually sorry they didn't just do a remake of the song Never by Moving Pictures. I thought that was one of the best songs in the movie.
I agree that the music was totally wrong in that scene, plus the dancing wasn't as good as I had hoped, considering Kenny is a trained dancer. It was the one scene that I felt let the film down. Otherwise I really enjoyed it (and I love the original!)
