I'm secretly happy about this failure

I really enjoy the Halloween movies. Even the bad ones from the original timeline. They were always a guilty pleasure, if nothing else. But this damn movie pissed me off beyond belief. It's like they brainstormed to see what the worst possible way to end this new trilogy would be, let alone end a 40 plus year story, and were just ok with this piping hot turd they decided to churn out.

I still don't understand how this was greenlit. A Halloween finale with Michael Myers as a role player. He might as well just been in the background of every scene eating an ice cream cone and then someone notices him, so then he gets up and kills a couple people for recognizing him, and then goes back to ice cream again in the background while other things are going on. Just an abomination.

I'm openly happy about this failure.

One of the worst films I've ever seen. Anyone who likes this film is a complete idiot, I'm genuinely considering going through all these topics and adding everyone who likes this film to my ignore list. I don't want to read their opinions on anything as they're clearly mentally impaired. That's how bad this film is.

It's like a friend letting you know he has a scat fetish and pays women to shit in his mouth. You can't ever look at them the same again. You're just repulsed by the individual. People who like Halloween Ends are akin to those shit eaters.

I'm just really disappointed about this failure. I've been watching a horror movie every night, trying to get into the Halloween spirit, but watching this really bummed me out.

I wasn't expecting anything great, but I was expecting some connective tissue between this and what was started in 2018. Making what is basically a stand alone film with a final lackluster fight tacked on the end was really disappointing, even to someone that didn't have really high expectations.

I keep reading people saying that this was some homage to Halloween 3, but the problem is: H3 is a stand alone film, not part of a trilogy. I feel like people don't really understand what a trilogy means these days.

To me, this is "The Last Jedi" all over again. Ever since that abomination hit theaters, there has been this disturbing new trend in film-making where studios, directors, writers, etc. intentionally make films/shows that they know fans will not like. DGG and JLC have stated that they knew that 'Ends' would piss a lot of fans off. My question is: why is that is an acceptable outcome? And if not to them, why is that acceptable to Jason Blum, head of the studio? I really doubt an 80% drop at the box office is all because of Peacock. I think word of mouth about how bad it is destroyed it. And it's a shame because it could've been avoided by not subscribing to this new way of thinking.

It is weird how different each film in this trilogy felt. They feel only barely connected, and each feels different in tone and style.

I do agree this film is a failure, but with the caveat that it had some interesting ideas that were somewhat bold.

It's ridiculous that you would like the very boring Halloween 5 but be so critical of this film.

reply

Why? This movie is the worst Halloween by a long chalk.

reply

I thought this film at least had some interesting ideas and felt unique, even if it wasn't executed very well. Halloween 5 is devoid of any ideas that are even remotely creative and also devoid of anything resembling entertainment value.

reply

Really I agree that it had some cool ideas but their execution sucked. My biggest gripe with this trilogy is none of the films stand alone but at the same time they don’t cohere as a whole.

I can pop in Empire and feel like it’s its own thing but also an expansion and continuation of New Hope.

As for 5, I don’t hate it as much as everyone else. I don’t mind Tina and I just ignore the mystery man.

reply

Also the end felt tacked on. I for one didn’t want a redundant Laurie v Michael fight but I also didn’t want this.

I thought it was great. Interesting twist, not the same old same old that I was expecting. My 5th favorite in the series after the first 4.

Most of the Halloween movies are terrible. People love the idea of the premise and character, not the movies. It's probably the most flawed horror franchise of the bunch.

reply

I agree with you there although I love the first two and find the next five entertaining. I only dislike Resurrection and this trilogy. And the Rob Zombie ones.

So yeah, it has the worst track record of the big three franchises. Jason and Freddy have a better hit ratio.
