Pros and Cons (Spoilers)

Pros

Establishes connection between Myers and Laurie (after ignoring it in 2018 and Kills)

Has a thrilling and definitive conclusion

Good Atmosphere (cinematography, score, and production design all top notch)

Good performances

Good kills

Tones down the unnecessary and cringeworthy "comedy" from the first few films.

Cons

More mixed, but thought Corey's arc was interesting, the lack of payoff was what really let it down.

Allison sidelined in her own plot. The conclusion should have included a showdown between her and Corey and she should have done more than play the battered victim who doesn't come around until it's too late. Telling this B story from Allison's point of view or having a surviving Cameron play the role of Corey would have been more satisfying and made their relationship more believable.

All the victims are supremely unlikable. They managed to make even the kid a bully. This movie follows a disturbing trend in modern movies that makes you sympathize with the villain. Since I don't want to get political, that's all I'll say.

The 4 year gap leaves too many unanswered questions.

Disrupts the cannon that Michael is the personification of evil by trying to explain his motivation. Either good or bad depending on which timeline you prefer. Other sequels are certainly guilty of this.

Tantalizes us with shades of character development for Laurie and Allison but doesn't deliver.

All in all, I have mixed feelings about this movie. Wasn't a big fan of either 2018 or Kills. While this movie fixes some of the issues I had with those, it introduces far more problems.

In the end, recommended for Halloween fans who will at least get a sense of closure by the film's end.
