No, I wouldn't call any movie woke.
shareAny movie? That’s a delusional statement.
shareWhy? I don't consider woke a real/valid criticism/description.
shareThe Star Wars Sequel trilogy, Ghostbusters 2016, and Terminator Dark Fate. All movies you could call woke and all steaming piles of shit.
shareThe Star Wars sequel trilogy and Ghostbusters 2016 were good movies and I wouldn't classify them as "woke" because it isn't a valid criticism.
shareTHAT IS THE MANTRA OF WEAK WILLED BITCHES...THOSE FILMS ARE FINE...DARK FATE BEING EXCELLENT...WOKE IS FAKE...A CUTE WAY FOR YOUR THIN SKINNED,DICKLESS POSSE TO PLAY VICTIM.
sharejust bad
shareIs there a more overused expression in the world than the term "woke" these days? I think certain people think it makes them edgy and cool to say it because they heard that pre-pubescent turd Ben Shapiro say it once. Everything they don't like is labeled "woke". Tired beyond belief.
shareYou'll stop hearing the term if entertainment ever goes back to being normal entertainment. Until then, get used to it.
shareHIGH FIVE.
shareIt is overused, however its a legitimate critique for a film or show because the elements that make up the simplified woke complaint are things that effect the quality of a project. Casting that doesn't make sense, story elements that don't work and don't fit in overall narrative, changing longstanding characters and/or their behaviors for no logical reason, overpowering characters, tokenism, a push for people to connect on a superficial level rather than anything that characters do on screen, stereotyping, race/gender swapping, etc all fall under the woke complaint. These are things that have been part of general criticism forever.
Everything you would find wrong with casting say Cumberbatch as Malcom X you should find wrong with Jodie Turner-Smith as Anne Boleyn. The latter is considered woke casting, a cast choice that doesn't make sense for a historical character, that is more about the creators wanting a certain representation on screen rather than what best serves the story and character. Her casting is a valid criticism for a historical drama.
Not really. It's diverse, which I imagine the film makers were going for. I understand it can come across as if they were checking of a list. POC? check. LGBT? check. But ultimately nothing about the film screamed political agenda pushing, it was all about representation.
'Diverse', not 'woke'.
It took all of 20 seconds into the movie to see a guy wearing a dress. I'd say thats a pretty good indicator.
