what is the MCU even working towards??

The first two phases felt cohesive and worked towards something with clear through lines and connections... this newest one just feels like... a mess of random films.. of course multiverse is connected to Wanda vision, but other than that everything just feels like it could be in any order and would have no effect.

what is even happening with Loki and our main baddie Kang? what have we even been shown so far working toward Kang and fighting him?? what threat has he posed so far? where is he and what ominous acts and strings has he been pulling in the background?

apparently he's going to be in atman in the wasp? is that really what hes been built up to be? a Villian in an antman movie??

I think MCU started as random films, once it became popular there were more planning involved. It became the avenger story.

The first two phases were wrapped up neatly with a great villain, Thanos.

I think now it is moving towards a story of young avengers, once all the characters are presented, there will be a main villain emerging and gradually taking shape. There will be a finale where young avengers defeat the said villain.

That is what I am thinking, but so far no great villain is forthcoming in any obvious ways.

If comic books are any guide, it is likely Kang.

no it didnt....... Nick fury appeared in iron man 1, the first of the MCU movies talking bout putting together a team. then again in iron man 2, the 3rd mcu movie. then again in Thor and Captain america. 4/5 films that preceded the Avengers.

Thanos appears in the Avengers, Guardians 1 and age of Ultron. so 11 films were built up before infinity war, with him showing up in 3.

you may be right. which is unfortunate.. none of these new characters seem all that interesting or good.

none of these new characters seem all that interesting or good

But it is right in Disney comfort zone.

reply

Disney bought the MCU after film 2. so they gave us the golden age so this isnt totally true.

reply

They bought Marvel, but I don't think they interfered with the existing plans already in place. And I don't think Marvel's own plan was beyond phase 1 & 2.

So I think now what we are seeing is Disney planning.

reply

if you spent that much money, and didnt they interfered in 10 films in phase 1 and 2, you arent living in reality.

also phase 3 has some of the best stuff: civil war, dr strange, Ragnarok, infinity war and far from home.

I dont see it so much as now this is Disneys bad planning per say. I think its a limbo period. where do you go from here now? introduce new characters and a new baddy I guess. but you've already given us your A team of heres. now we are dipping into miss marvel.... and Shang Chi (which I enjoyed) and the female Hawkeye...

they seem to have lost focus with their plethora of tv shows and movies

reply

no one knows whats going on. was there going to be another team up movie? for now, all the movies are cash grabs.

reply

I mean to be fair they always have been. but at least they had a cohesive through line and story. with smart interconnectedness and tie in.

reply

true, but every movie was building towards something. its like a 20 movie arc I think? thats never been done before.

I think they are just winging it for now.

want to try this sometime soon....

rejoice, this will be the lowest rated MCU movie

reply

Nah, you forgot Eternals, Black Widow, and Captain Marvel exist.

what is the MCU even working towards??

Setting up a new generation of heroes, similar to the way Phase 1 had heroes being recruited into the Avengers Program by Nick Fury. Phase 4 has seen a team of anti-heroes being recruited by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, and has also been introducing the Young Avengers.

Phase 4 has also expanded the universe by introducing the Eternals, Celestials, various gods and parallel dimensions.

Bear in mind that Phase 1 wasn't cohesive ... Odin has Thanos' Infinity Gauntlet in his trophy room in the first 'Thor' film, for example.

reply

The multiverse is too big, and none of the stories matter. If they fail, it's just another parallel universe that got wiped out, no biggie (see the Illuminati heroes in the latest Dr. Strange movie).

And the Eternals were terrible. Better to retcon them out of it.

reply

Yeah, it's kind of a mess, with no Thanos to focus the narrative, no Iron Man and Captain America for leadership, and Spiderman being a kid. I was sure Loki would show up in a movie about the Multiverse, but not even an Easter Egg appeared (unless I missed it.)

And what's with Wanda turning so totally evil? Didn't she learn her lesson after enslaving that town? And how PC is it to make a crazy woman the bad guy?

reply

AS I SEE IT...STRANGE IS THE NEW "IRON MAN" OF THE GROUP AND I THINK SPIDEY IS GOING TO WORK INTO THE "CAP" ROLE.

reply

you were making sense and good points at first. then you went cringe triggered cuckservative. get your guys narrative straight.

reply

Phase 4 reminds me a lot of Phase 1, which makes sense.

Phase 1 - Introduce new heroes, loosely connect them with post-credit scenes building up the Avengers film.

Phase 2 - Introduce a few new heroes, and revisit the old ones. Start to build momentum towards Thanos, mostly in post-credits scenes, with a larger narrative in the Guardians of the Galaxy film.

Phase 3 - Introduce a few new heroes, and revisit the old ones. More momentum towards Thanos, but only towards the end of the series, leading directly into Infinity War and Endgame

Phase 4 - We've met some new heroes, and caught up with a few old ones. With the Disney+ shows now in the mix there is a lot more room for exposition, and we're a lot closer to Kang in Phase 4 than we were to Thanos in Phase 1.

Phase 5 - Presumably more new heroes / a few old ones, and either a resolution of the Kang saga or, more likely, more slow build-up to a finale in Phase 6.

Phase 6 - By now we'll have Fantastic Four and X-Men firmly in the MCU, and each will probably get a second film in Phase 6. Those, along with an Avengers 5, may well be the films that offer the meat and potatoes of the war against Kang.

It's working toward Wolverine. When Wolverine shows up, he's going to take over the MCU and it's all going to become the Wolverine show. He's gonna pick up the whole franchise and carry it on his back just like he always does.
