Shades of 9/11

did anyone else feel the footage of the initial attacks in clover field were a parody of 9/11?

reply

Parody is a poor word to use. It's trying to be like the original Godzilla by invoking the imagery, emotions and terror felt during those traumatic events, making it more of an allegory, if not a satire.

reply

The whole movie is an allegory about the post 9/11 terror fear.

Yeah this movie is definitely what the Original Godzilla was to the Japanese with the bombs and being affected by Nuclear Fallout on several occasions as Cloverfield is to us with 9/11. Funnily enough both films begin with Ominous thunderous footsteps over the opening logos. Both are definitely allegory's for each historic event.

Evolution said it best.

It tries to be, but it's nowhere as good as the original 54 "Godzilla".

I remember when I first saw the original trailer for this movie I couldn't tell if it was a monster movie, about a natural disaster of some sort, or about a terrorist attack similar to 9/11. It was a fun experience and I wish there'd be a marketing gimmick like it again.

The only reason why people associate this movie with 9/11 is because it takes place in NYC.

If it was based anywhere else it would just be called what it is , a disaster movie.

reply

Not really. There are definite correlations. Such as, the action takes place in Lower Manhattan. The head of the Statue of Liberty lands in the middle of the street, much like a bit of engine that crushed a woman who was running from the scene of 9/11. The panic in the streets, with many people running toward the action instead of running away, mass transit shutting down leaving people stranded, the march across the Brooklyn Bridge, trying to find loved ones, etc. However, they did seem to mash up 9/11 with the movie, "Miracle Mile." To the point where I knew how this would end half an hour in.

There's more than 7 billion people on the planet. I can pretty much guarantee that someone else feels that way. They too are incorrect.

WORDS MEAN THINGS! Also, before you come to bitch about a plot hole, rewatch the show/movie.
