Why is it called Cloverfield?
shareWhen some movies are being filmed, anything associated with the entire production which has to be indicated on paper, packaging or labels is often times given a code name to keep everything from attracting attention. In the case of this movie, that code name was "Cloverfield", but, unlike almost every film that does this, the title remained with it all the way to theaters.
The reason that name was chosen as the code name is due to the location of the production company's main office on Cloverfield Avenue in Santa Monica, California. As to why they chose to stick with that as the title of the movie instead of another is anyone's guess.

Wow very interesting. Never would of thought that. Thank you for the explanation! I was thinking it was being ironic--- like clovers are symbols of "luck" and their entire experience was the opposite of luck. I try to find meaning in all titles haha but this one was nearly impossible and now I see why.
shareYou're welcome. I did the same thing. We're used to the title of a movie having some association with the story. It's fun being able to figure it out on my own but this one had me scratching my head until I read the trivia section.
