Very Good But Spoiled By The Supernatural
Frankly, I would have been happy if this had simply been a show about people on an island dealing with redemption, regret, sin, forgiveness, etc.
The supernatural element wasn't required at all. That being said, I enjoyed the conflation of Christian myth and vampire lore. Never seen that before (and disturbing how easily they fitted together). But once the twist is revealed, it all became... well, a bit silly. In order for ANY of this to work, the townsfolk would have to be utterly ignorant of vampires. Not once does anyone make the connection which, for the likes of Bev, made a degree is sense because she's so pious, but not for anyone else. I mean the mayor just goes along with it. Yup, let's burry the dead guy and move on. That wasn't convincing.
Like I said, the themes, the ideas, the long monologues about the meaning of life, could all just as easily been done with no supernatural element. Shame.
