Too many hymns/musical interludes, especially in the last couple of episodes

Made it too slow. I ended up skipping through them after a while, as nothing of any interest was happening during most of them. Felt like padding disguised as 'meaningfulness', or somesuch.

I felt the same way. I enjoyed a couple of them but they got annoying after awhile.

The production team probably had to reach a certain running time Netflix had imposed?

I have a suspicion that this may have been the case. When I heard there were seven episodes, I thought maybe it'd be a leaner show. Now I'm suspecting this was stretched to seven lol

i bet youre the fun type of person that hates going to church? Boo hoo. Deal with it.

Why the fudge did you watch Midnight Mass then if you dont like hymnal songs?

reply

What are you talking about?

That shit got old.

Totally disagree 1000%.

Firstly, I'm not a Christian and so haven't grown up with going to church and hymns. Always found hymns boring and even irritating when I heard them anywhere.

But OMG I'd the Newton Brothers have opened my ears to the beauty in their interpretation of hymns! I have been playing the soundtrack on YouTube, especially Were You There and Abide With Me and I can't get enough of it!

Don't get me wrong, I haven't turned religious and I'm not going to start going to church, but their music on this series added so much, emotionally, that it really made it for me.

Still, I guess if some people simply hate hymns per sé, then they will always hate them.

The whole OST is on YouTube, check it out.

I think the original Diamond track was even extended. I made my way through them grudgingly.

I agree... also some heavy dialogue scenes could have been trimmed... I recall while watching it wondering if the production team just had to meet a particular running time or was this done on purpose?

reply

Please correct me if I'm wrong but saying mass is Catholic and I don't believe those hymns are sung by Catholics. They're more Baptist-type songs, I think.

reply

I have no idea.
