Your post seems to intend on insulting the sense of humor of others, but to give you the benefit of the doubt and believe you're actually wondering what IS funny, I think I can answer that.
The dogs in the film were absolutely hilarious. Dug is wonderful. He vocalizes what you think your dog would say if he could, and it's essentially funny because it seems true. But, you may have to really know and live with dogs to appreciate that humor.
Kevin was also very funny, and there were many other laughs with the interaction between Carl and Russell as well.
Obviously you saw the same content and didn't find it funny. To tell the truth, I resented the filmmakers for making the beginning so sad. It seemed to be unnecessary flogging of the audience, and it affects the ability for some users to re-watch it. For me, it affected my perception of the quality of the drama, which I feel could have been done more artfully and less painfully.
Do I feel that people who adore the movie for the drama are 'nuts'? Absolutely not. Simply different people with different tastes.
