Sad how we hardly see balloon vendors anymore

When I was a little kid, at our annual 4th of July festival there was always a tent that sold balloons in various sizes and types, like the latex and mylar. And at the parade itself, they'd have a vendor walking around selling balloons. That disappeared around 2003. They do it at our St. Patricks Day parade at least. And remember how at the zoo they'd sell balloons? And at Central Park? Seriously why does everyone have to be a p**** nowadays? Why weren't balloons an environmental concern back in the 60s/70s/80s and even 90s? I remember going to the Buffalo Zoo in 1993 and getting a balloon but now you just mention the word balloon at any zoo and they'll foam at the mouth. They used to sell them at our zoo as well. I don't see how it's a problem so long as they're anchored down so they can't fly away. They don't even allow balloons inside enclosed buildings for kids birthday parties at the zoo. And at Disney world, they don't allow balloons inside the Animal Kingdom Lodge. I could see not letting them be around the animals (they have a zoo outback with giraffes and other animals) but why is it a problem if it's just in the hotel room? If I was staying there and bought one at the park, I would still sneak it in somehow, and keep it hidden in the closet so the maids don't see. The balloons at Disney world are really special.
I almost went there last summer to be a vendor on Main Street but I got a job through school instead which was more important and better paying.
