another classic destroyed by woke culture

Another remake of a classic movie where the wokeness has been ramped up to eleven to be turned into yet another film about how all men are evil and how women need to give them a good ass-whooping. Yay! Why create believable female characters like Olivia Hussey from the original defending herself against a genuinely scary villain when you can just turn them into cartoon superheroes fighting big, evil woman haters.

With all the flack movies like Terminator: Dark Fate and Ghostbusters received for being the hot woke garbage they are, why the fuck isn't this movie being called out for it is? Another bullshit, politically correct reimagining of a classic movie with everything the original stood for stripped away.

Fuck this movie.

Only thing that's destroyed is any sense of proportion with these kind of complaints.

I don't really care about the 'woke culture' spoiling this movie. As I've said in various threads previously, women have been kicking ass in horror movies for decades. You'd struggle to find a slasher movie made since 1980 where they haven't.

My worry is more that they're bigging up the women fighting back angle like it's something new and different. It's not, it's existing in horror movies for decades. You wonder how many slasher films the makers have watched before.

Also, the fact that they are fighting back at all implies that they reveal who Billy is. When the interesting part of the firtst movie is that nobody knew who Billy was. You never saw him.

"women have been kicking ass in horror movies for decades"

No, they haven't. Most horror movies just show women desperately defending themselves. Not straight up kicking ass like the trailer for this film showed. I don't have a problem with action movie heroines, but in a horror film, the goal should be to ellicit fear. And to do that, the main characters have to be believable people. There's nothing believable about a group of college sorority girls suddenly turning into the Avengers.

"the fact that they are fighting back at all implies that they reveal who Billy is"

Did you not see the trailer? It shows that they aren't just fighting one guy, but a whole group of women murdering psychos. There is no "Billy" in this version, as there's no single entity responsible for all the kills. It's just an excuse to have all the girls team up and become superheroes, and to propagate the whole "fuck men" narrative that has become extremely common in modern media.

Actually, I didn't see the trailer. I heard it had a lot of spoilers in so avoided it. That's interesting. So there's not even any Billy in this version? Seems weird to even classify it a Black Christmas movie then.

By horror movies, I was referring to slasher movies predominantly. And yes they are desperately trying to defend themselves, but they can be cool or badass about it. Take Nancy Thompson setting up booby traps everywhere to get Freddy. Yes, she's scared, but she bravely fights back and wins. That's what I meant about kicking ass. Even in the original Black Christmas, Jess showed she was capable by defeating Peter in the end. Granted, he wasn't the killer. But when it looked for all the world like he was, she ended up defeating him. Again, she was scared. But she won anyway.

Though, from what I've heard, it doesn't sound like this version will do it anywhere near as well as the original movies do.

Theres nothin believeable about any horror movie. Most of them are totally stupid and just and excuse to see some tits randomely popping out amongst the scenes of the cast beoing stabbed one by one.
Most horrors turn out so corny and stupid they have to reclidssify themselves as "horror - comedy"

So as such I have no problem with a bunch of women stabbing the Jason or the Freddy for a change.

Explain yourself, why don't you? All I'm getting here is the cliche vibe that you're gonna say I'm triggered which somehow makes all my points completely invalid.

reply

For one thing , there's been horror movies about evil men preying on women for over a century now.

reply

So? That wasn't my point at all. Did you even read what I said?

reply

If you say so, flower.

Nothing is "destroyed", still. That's the bottom line.

reply

Wow, what an intelligent and thoughtful argument. You're clearly in the IQ range intended for this film.

It's called hyberbole, jackass.

YOU ARE AN IDIOT WHO SEE'S WOMEN DOING SOMETHING OTHER THAN SCREAMING,CRYING AND RUNNING AND STARTS SCREAMING....WOKE!

At least I know how to use caps properly. : )

reply

IN CASE YOU HADNT NOTICED...IM USING THE CAPS PERFECTLY.

reply

Sure, and Christopher Columbus died believing he found India.

reply

YOU SAID..."HOW TO USE CAPS PROPERLY"...I AM USING THEM PROPERLY.

reply

The original is shit. This will be shit.

reply

The 2006 or the 1974 one?

reply

1974 haven't seen the 2006 one

reply

It's a big difference between the two. If you like gore, you may enjoy the 2006. I didn't.

reply

if you believe the original is shit you shouldn't even be watching horror films

reply

exactly would they stop remaking classic horror films already. i mean this is the ultimate and the epitome of remake evil and remakes being made that aren't necessary and thus shouldn't exist. there was no reason for the 2006 remake bc the original is perfect and the best christmas horror movie ever made and is so great that you can't improve on it. which is the only reason why you should make a remake. this is despicable. there's not a better horror film that has ever been made than the original so you can't remake it. and this is not just me not liking new movies.

reply

I didn't mind the 'woke' stuff, it would've been fine if the rest of the film was good, but it just wasn't. As a slasher film (first half), it was flat and uninspired, and the cuts to get that lower rating were sloppy - you couldn't tell what had actually happened to the person.

The trailer also giving away everything meant there was no surprise element, bar that barely-discussed magic statue rubbish.

Overall, it felt like they focused entirely on the feminist message (again, didn't bother me - plenty of slasher films have employed awesome scenarios of women turning the tables on their attackers) and just forgot to make a decent horror film to support it with.

reply

I didn't even bother seeing it.I'll wait till its streaming free. The trailer through me off.It had that preachy girl power vibe to it.Judging by the bad reviews i made the right choice.

reply

What classic was destroyed? My copy of the original Black Christmas is still in good condition and plays just fine. Don't be so dramatic.

reply

It's called hyperbole, jackass.

reply

I think topics like this can make for great movies if the characters are likeable or we have a reason to care for them rey and captain marvel are what not to do

reply

At least we've still got the original.
