Maybe I'm going crazy, but it seems like from what I remember, for some categories, they'd say the winner right after saying the last nominee, with no pause, and then the winner would instantly be on stage, like they knew they were going to win.
shareEight categories and their winners were going to be announced before the televised portion of the event and later edited into the broadcast. These were documentary short, film editing, makeup and hairstyling, original score, production design, animated short, live action short and sound. Many Oscar viewers and participants were very upset over these omissions.
