Wasn't THAT bad..

I put off on watching this for obvious reasons.. I thought it looked like *beep* but I actually regret not watching it sooner.
Sure it's bad, but at the same time it's surprisingly entertaining. And the action and whatnot is actually decent. It kept me enjoyed for the 2 or so hours.
I will probably never watch it again, but I don't understand why everyone rips on it so much. Like honestly, what is the best action movie you have seen. All movies have their flaws, and this one has numerous. But at the same time, it's entertaining and isn't that what a movie is suppose to do???

You know, the EXACT same argument could be made for Halle Berry's Catwoman...but that doesn't change the fact that it was a bad film, plain and simple. It gets ripped on because it deserves to get ripped on. This argument could be applied to any movie ever made, does that mean that people should just drop their standards and blindly take whatever is shoveled their way? Being an action movie doesn't mean they shouldn't try to make it the best movie they can. Considering all of the things that could have been done with this property, it is obvious that nobody cared about anything other than loud explosions and silly looking effects because they have figured out that many in the audience these days have indeed left their quality standards at home. Why try when nobody has standards anymore?

This movie is OK if you are not a G.I.Joe fan (cartoon or comics, mainly Marvel or Devil's Due). It is no different than many other over the top, over blown Hollywood summer fill ins. Mind numbing, but slightly entertaining.

The best action film I have seen is either Raiders of the Lost Ark or one of the Die Hard films, which are in a different film making standard than G.I.Joe.

Exactly. On its own merits, if it were made as a generic action movie, it'd be alright. As a *G.I. Joe* movie that's supposed to be based on 25+ years of established characterizations and mythology, it's terrible.

I think the movie is still ultimately garbage when all is said and done...a lots of half-assed effort that hides it's shortcomings behind a wall of bad CGI. It isn't the worst action film around, but it hardly qualifies as good either. It's mediocre nonsense, even when removed from the standards one would expect from a GI JOE film.

reply

No. It's not entertaining. Not even to someone who knows the bulk of the GI Joe personalities and old storylines.

If you find it entertaining, more power to you. I personally felt rage and wanted to write scathing letters when it was over.

Every single characterization minus Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow was god awful, to the point of being unwatchable. I can't even count how many miscasts there were.

Horrible, horrible film.

Every single characterization minus Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow was god awful, to the point of being unwatchable. >>> And even that was ruined by the constant, pointless flashbacks that added nothing to the plot.

well that's kind of cool... but it's not GI Joe

Exactly!

I'm confused how is it not GI Joe? How did the fans expect it to be like? I watched the tv series, its not all seriousness and thought provoking plot.
