3D computer animation for comic book movies

I wonder if they could produce a better comic book or cartoon movie if they did it all in computer animation. This would allow them to create the characters exactly as we remember then in the comics or cartoons and just use the voices of talented actors or actresses that might not have the look. It would also allow for better scenes and interactions that we grew to love in the cartoons.

They pretty much did that. Although not as lifelike as Sky Captain or Sin City. They were a few direct to video movies a few years ago. There was Spy Troops that came free in a figure pack, Valor vs. Venom, and the third(my favorite) was a cheap 3D motion comic called Ninja Battles. Sad to say, as bad as they were, they were still better than the theatrical movie.

The best thing I saw were the original trailers for Spy Troops. They were briefly on the website, and also included on a free game disc that came with some figures. The 3D computer animation was stunning, Unfortunately they didn't use that footage in the actual DVD. The DVD that was released looked completely different(not as good).

I think that if not now then in the future the animation might be good enough to do. Plus I think it would still give a comic book feeling.

Did you see Sky Captain? The technology was around 6 years ago.

Didn't they have to use the images of the actual actors though?

Yes. I believe the actors were the only "real" things on the screen. I thought that whole movie was pretty flawless. Very under rated. shoestring budget too.

My idea is to have even the characters animated but look real. This way they can get the characters to do everything they did in the cartoons.

Actually. now that you mention it. They did exactly what you're describing in the new Tron movie. They did a computer model of a 30 year old Jeff bridges face. And super imposed it on a live body. It looked perfect. I'm sure they could have just as easily put it on a cgi body to do wild stunts.

I am hoping that if they find a good character actor they don't have to pay an arm and a leg for they could spend more money on the animation to give more realistic looking scenes but still animation.

you seem to be bouncing around. you want realistic cgi actors, or good cheap real actors? Star Trek got cheap no-name actors, with the exception of bruce greenwood and simon peg(still not expensive actors by a long shot). that cast did a great job.

reply

Well I am looking for good character voice actors that may have not got their big break yet so they will not be as expensive as big name actors. By getting voice actors they can design the bodies the best way to fit the characters.

Yeah. I don't know. But anything would have been better than the crap they released.

reply

I think that is the problem with most comic book and cartoon converted to live action. Just doesn't convert well.

e first spiderman was very good, and the first two superman movies back in the 70's I think still hold up well today.
