Ummm. yes they can…its based on chemical releases. Did the writer even do any research before writing the script?

She's not necessarily speaking from an empirical/scientific point of view.

She is expressing the belief of the Roman Stoics - that philosophical school that saw emotions as impure thoughts that cloud our ability to think - by embracing reason one can purge these impure thoughts and therefore avoid the pitfalls that emotions often create for us.

At least that is what the "spirit" of what she's saying, even though she expresses it in pseudo-scientific babble.

reply

The stoics didn't not believe in emotion, or that it was bad. Stoicism was about avoiding "passion", which in the context is negative emotion, or being driven by emotion. They still laughed at dick and fart jokes. They just didn't go around getting in fights over mama jokes.

I just chapter skip that whole gym scene when I watch the movie because it's retarded. The film is way better without it!

reply

"The film is way better without it!"

It's not saying much...

reply

the gym scene is the only reason I watch the movie!
Cool soundtrack and Scarlett's wiggling breast :-P

reply

haha, when did watching a summer blockbuster become a gripping and "factual" documentary?

reply

When did summer blockbuster become stupid and void of anything meaningful? It used to not be so, so please don't act as if it is a sin to expect a good effort in a summer film.

Whose idea was it for the word "Lisp" to have an "S" in it?

reply

Even better: chapter skip the whole movie and you can spend that couple of hours doing something that doesn't kill your soul.

reply

Not remembering that part of the movie, I was like "lolwut" and came here to correct you. Good to see you're less ignorant than I thought!

Very good, Louis. Short, but pointless.
