Thoughts on G.I Joe 2 so far based on info revealed?

Ya know.... after the first movie I really didnt care about a sequel at first especially when Jon Chu was picked for director despite him mentioning that he's fan but after seeing the character choices for this film it has started to peak my interest. So here's a rundown of this film's character roster so far as well as the ones that aren't returning and the ones that aren't ruled out yet based on the info given out.

Here's the character roster for this film so far:

Channing Tatum as Duke

Dwayne Johnson as RoadBlock

Ray Park as Snake Eyes

Byung Hung Lee as Storm Shadow

Elodie Yung as Jinx

RZA as Blind Master

DJ Cotrona as Flint

Cross Country: TBD

Adrianne Palicki as Lady Jaye

?? as Joe Colton aka The Original G.I. Joe(Bruce Willis is supposedly the frontrunner at the moment.)

Ray Stevenson as Firefly

Actors and Characters that definitely aren't returning

Marlon Wayans as Ripcord

Rachel Nichols as Scarlett

Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Heavy Duty

Brendan Fraser as Sgt. Stone

Sienna Miller as The Baroness

Karolína Kurková as Cover Girl

Characters that may or may not return:

Dennis Quaid as General Hawk

Saïd Taghmaoui as Breaker

Christopher Eccleston as Destro

Arnold Vosloo as Zartan

Kevin J. O'Connor as Doctor Mindbender

....So what do you guys think of how this is shaping up? Think it might surprise us pleasantly or disappoint us again?

I'm not a fan of Marlon Wayons but the new cast is even worse. Its like they went bargain basement for the actors(exclude The Rock) so they could used the extra money on sfx!

I mean...Elodie Yung as Jinx

RZA as Blind Master

DJ Cotrona as Flint

Adrianne Palicki as Lady Jaye

Seriously!? These are the people they cast??? Where the gorgeous Rachel Nicholas??? She can act and looks HAWT!!!!

I dunno. I'm not getting a good feeling.

And while Stephen Sommers might not be the best director, Jon Chun is even worse!

I honestly believe this sequel will be worse than the original!

I know nothing about D.J Cotrona but the others you mentioned seem to get good criticism on their performances and Elodie Yung is a pretty good fighter for sure so who knows...just because their not household names doesn't mean their horrible actors.

I don't go by household names.

I've see most of these guys work and I'm even less impressive by this new cast than the old cast.

Now it seems that one of the central villains will be Firefly: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/thor-actor-ray-stevenson- play-209347

Although I don't go by house names either, but when no one A List wants to be apart of a blockbuster film you know its not going to be good.

Well that's a given, noone wants to touch a franchise that was critically slaughtered. If anything, these obscure actors are just taking up an opportunity that's been passed down to them. It gives them exposure even if the movie is a terrible bomb. If this film ends up being well received, it could do wonders for them. So to me, I think it's a win win situation for these actors signing up.

The name of the game in Hollywood is don't end up slumming in Cable TV movies and then even worse, independent movies noone is ever gonna see.

It's only when the actors have an established reputation, that it becomes poisonous to star in a movie that is critically slaughtered.

Although I too am very nervous about how well this movie is going to do... here is a beacon of hope amongst the bleakness.

Look at John M. Chu's track record on Rotten Tomatoes

2008 - Step Up 2 the Streets - 26%
2010 - Step Up 3-D - 46%
2011 - Justin Bieber: Never Say never - 64%

So he has gradually improved with each film by a significant portion. However this movie WILL be his debut in a non-musical/dance movie so all bets are off.

I also hear that the guys who wrote Zombieland are writing this movie.

But then again, the guy who wrote the first Pirates of the Carribean, wrote the Rise of Cobra which sounded promising but look how well that did.

Razzie Winner Halle Berry: If you can't take criticism then you're not worthy of praise.

Wasn't Mindbender killed in the first one?

I actually liked the movie more than I expected to, relatively speaking, but I don't see how a sequel is going to work out with such a shake up in the cast. I'm sure Rachel Nicholas is not a huge paycheck to write, so I'd like to see her back among others.
