Captain America was more GI JOE than this film was

At least Captain America wasn't afraid of patriotism. It had far more spirit than this film had, which is a real shame. Sorry, but the spirit of patriotism is at the heart of material like GI JOE and Captain America. The only difference is that one film was scared to death of it, felt the need to be politically correct, and in the end water down the very nature of the material. The other was not afraid, ran with it, managed to balance it so that it wasn't offensive in any way, and be good and entertaining. The success of Captain America after doing all of the things that GI JOE should have done only serves to make this GI JOE film even worse than it previously was.

Shame on you writers, Stephen Sommers, and the studio!

Amen.

Maybe the PC nuts were OK with Captain America because they had "international flavor" with the Howling Commandos.

Sommers and the Joe studio would of had Steve Rogers be called Captain and dress in a black leather jumpsuit.Like this;

Captain America proves beyond all shadow of doubt that GI JOE could easily have been done right from the get go. It also shows us a perfect comparison for how getting carried away with being politically correct can hurt a film versus simply not worrying about PC bullsh*t and letting the material be what it is can work for it. The whole time I was watching CA, I was imagining a GI JOE film that could have been like it. Yes, some dream of a more gritty GI JOE, but I would have been satisfied with a more comic bookish film had it simply captured the heart of the source material. GI JOE instead cut the heart out and made a film that was basically GI JOE in name only with nothing that looked or felt right. Nothing. You are so right, Sommers and Paramount would definitely have used the dork version in your link!

Totally agree with everything everyone has said.

Semper Sci-Fi !!! ¦|¦|¦|

Disagree. This movie was pretty close to what GI JOE was all about, felt and souned like GI JOE to me.

You're entitles to your opinion, though I couldn't disagree with you any more if I tried. What exactly felt like GI JOE to you? Which character seemed like themselves? What part of the patriotic American team did you see here? In my opinion, it felt like a cartoon episode as far as the destruction of the Eiffel Tower and the secret Cobra base, but that was about it. None of the characters were right.
