Killing Cover Girl?

Gotta say in a fairly childish and predictable film this scene absolutely left me speechless, it was the last thing you expected and a waste of a great character and beautifully buxom actress. How she dies is reminiscent of the bimbo in a slasher flick, stabbing her through the breasts verges on the misogynistic, Zartan even mocks her as she dies. Although I noticed there's no blood on his knife.

Can anyone explain to me why they did that?

honestly I think it's a ratings thing...because they had a PG-13 rating, they couldn't show a bloody gory death.

But why kill her?

Cover Girl is actually one of my favorite GI Joe characters.

In her original incarnation, she's a former super model who gets fed up with the shallow industry and enlists in the army to find new purpose in her life. Not only that, but she adopts the very unfeminine role of tank jockey and excels at it.

All the other GI Joe female characters were some kind of counter intelligence agent--Scarlett, Lady Jaye, Jinx, even the villains Baroness and Zarana.

Not Cover Girl. She was grease monkey--I always dug that aspect of her.

Plus she often came off as supremely confident in her abilities, perhaps a bit haughty (which led to clashes with teammate Scarlett) though she certainly could back it up, what with being in command of a missile carrier and all.

That said, it is a shame the movie basically reduced her to a mere aide of General Hawk.

However, her death did allow other characters to shine--we get to see just how evil and despicable Mr. Zartan truly is. Plus, it reveals a hint of nobility in the Storm Shadow character when he laments her brutal death ("Oh, that's right. You don't kill women!").

I was coming to this board to make a post on just this topic. I thought it was creepy as hell the way they killed her off. 1st you get the shock with the knife coming out her chest, 2nd she kinda falls face first to the ground, 3rd Zartan picks her up by her hair and she lets out that creepy last gasp of breath as Zartan jokes about it and then he unceremoniously drops her to the floor ya no blood but kinda hard core for a PG13 movie.

I think, there is a simple explanation: the actress and supermodel Karolina Kurkova who played cover girl was so stupid that there was a lot of difficulties with her play. She can go, turn around and look very, very beautiful, but can't play her play naturally. Remember, she spoke just three short and meaningless phrases during the whole movie! So director tried for her and decided cut off her line. It's pity to me, she is really gorgeous woman, and I was shocked when her character was killed so suddenly and indifferently.
