When Sienna Miller fires a gun in the air then says 'nice shoes'

thats the point at which I switched over. Utter drivel, I hate myself for even giving it a chance.

You want to see a proper film check out "A bittersweet life" starring Byung-hun lee (aka storm shadow)

I think the filmmakers were very much aware of the silliness and I think that's the point of the movie: to be so bad you can't help but enjoy it.

reply

Exactly. I got a Showgirls vibe off of it.

Le temps détruit tout.

reply

Um, no, I don't think so; but, you guys are probably still telling yourselves that..;)

It was actually satisfactory. This was my first G.I Joe experience. Never read the comics, never watched the shows, never played the figures, heck never searched it on the web until I encountered it here in IMDB and thought it was a good download equate to Revenge of the Fallen. And it was........
(Note: I compared it to TROTF, not Avatar)

This has been my point all along. If you don't know anything about these characters or Joe mythology, then you're in for a decent action flick. If you're a longtime fan of the comic books and cartoon, you're much more likely to be disappointed.

reply

Meh, I think I still would have hated it. But that's just me.

No, she is a star in reality.

'Course so is Lady GaGa.

Oh right. Thanks for pointing that out. That must've been why I was disappointed in the first two x mens...

A ship sank and the end of Titanic

reply

The first two? Does that mean you enjoyed the later installments over them? And you also enjoyed G.I Joe, Revenge of the fallen and Avatar? Those were all some pretty rubbish movies.

"Be it a grain of sand or rock, in water they sink as the same."

reply

yup because I'm not a fan of the cartoons nor the comics and fans get disappointed on the movie, same as me over the Resident Evil movies... Oh and thanks for deciding what movies I should like...

A ship sank at the end of Titanic

reply

I'm not a fan neither and I loved the first two X-Men movies, and also X3 and X-Men Origins, so what? Oh, and btw, I liked Rotf and G.I. Joe two... Avatar was passable to me.

reply

I loved the cartoons as a kid coming home to watch them in the 80's, along with Transformers, Voltron, Silverhawks, The Flintstones, and last but not least Thundercats.

This movie was written just the same way the cartoon was, cheesy lines, machines blowing up and somehow not killing the people inside them. A Joe dies unexpectedly. And in the end they get the bad guy.

The way i see it it just leaves it up to Zartan now acting as the president to pardon both Destro and Cobra Commander then we get to see the formation of Cobra pulling its resources from aroundthe world to fight the Joes.

I didnt read the comics but this movie delivered the same level of entertainment that the cartoon of the 80's did. Unfortunantly for you and those who didnt like it, they based it more off the cartoon then the i imagine much better writing of the comics.

Not trying to pick a fight just stating why i think the movie was done well. Not great, certainly there were things id change, but over all it wasnt bad.

I never watch the show(only 18) or played with the toys and I loved it too 8/10. I thought Avatar was overrated, the effects were awesome but the story was okay. I liked RotF because I enjoyed it for what it was and not for how accurate it was.

Thanks!! finally.. someone else outside my head that appreciates RotF for what it is...

Maybe it's just me, but when I saw the "Hasbro" logo pop up I knew to relax my sphincter and just enjoy the film for what it is: an extended commercial.

As a result, it was actually pretty enjoyable!

Why was it tensed up to begin with!? Creepy...

reply

Watching movies based on children's toys is very serious business.

(Also, asking a man about his sphincter is pretty creepy, too. Just sayin'.)

The easiest way to avoid that is to stop writing about it on a public discussion board. Just sayin'...

reply

I only put my sphincter out there in all its tight glory. Only you can prevent you from inspecting it.

reply

This thread is now officially on the downward spiral of creepiness.

reply

Maybe it's just me, but when I saw the word "sphincter" I knew it there would be creepiness.

reply

Are you CRAZY, mugojoe? You STARTED the spiral!

reply

Best. Argument. EVAH!

Thanks for the play-by-play. Let's just hope there's no slow motion footage.

Being a near 20-year long fan of the Joe's. I actually chuckled at that part, because it was a dare I say it, a 'girlie' moment, interrupting the moments of 'badass'erey.

I AM BEOWULF!

Still better than the crap garbage that is Transformers 1& 2. And most liekly also TF3.

TBH the ONLY thing I disliked was that they made the only female villan branwashed, & probly a hero in GI2.

GIJoe shows how raping a property can work, while Bay shows how it fails.

reply

I don't see this. As far as Transformers story telling goes, the cartoon is garbage. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan, but it was a dumb show with continuity errors and horrid dialogue. I think what Bay and the writers did to adapt it as a movie was great. I was crazy entertained. Were there stuff that sucked? Sure. Thought the designs were waaayyy too complicated. And would have loved more Optimus screen time, but showing any of those guys were pretty damn expensive, so I'm sure they had to work around the budget. But if I had to pick the movie or the cartoon, I'd pick the movie.

As Gi Joe goes, I think the adaption is far worse than the source. I felt that all the characters were super flat and dumb. When they were attacked by the MARS troops, why did the soldiers stay in the open and fire? Why was Duke able to defeat Snake Eyes in combat? Why the hell they gave Duke and Ripcord this incredibly advanced Iron Man suits when they were fairly new to the squad and relatively untrusted? The connection with Doctor, Baroness, and Duke was not necessary to me.

As far as respecting the source, I thought Transformers did a good job. The writers showed a lot of love to the franchise. Bay just did his thing with the action and I felt it worked. G.I Joe, I got none of that. I actually stopped paying attention around the training montage because I was just not liking it.

Watch these movies!!:
American History X, Zombieland, Kick Ass, anything Hayao Miyazaki

reply

Did you ever watch the TV show? its corny as anything. that was kind of the point.

reply

Yea I did thanks, typed the wrong thing. :)

Ok I just saw this movie and I admit to chuckling over her line. Was it necessary? No. But I was actually expecting the Baroness to shoot the lady in the elevator, so this was just funnier.

reply

It was just a line to break the seriousness of the situation and get a laugh out of the audience, it's a common method by Directors, especially ones who specialize in making action movies.

My ignore list is very, very, very long...
