That was one of the biggest flaws of the movie. Inconsistent and lack of character development.
Why did he like her? He wasn't even dating her and he wanted Dane Cook to go in a work his magic, but in every other situation for Dane's act was to get couple that were TOGETHER back together, not just a hopeless crush to work out. And what was Brigg's relationship to Kate? Was he her assistant? Were they co-workers? Were they peers at the seemingly successful company? Brigg's character seemed put together, but didn't have enough common sense to play it cool with his crush, and they gave no background as to why he was like that.
And they gave no background for why Alexis was such a great catch. Like this first post, she sucked, and her character wasn't showing any signs of anything else, yet the film shoves it down your throat that she's the best catch out there! WHY?
And Dane, he didnt' have too much strategy for his profession, you'd assume that there'd be a lot more situations like Alexis' sister that he'd run into doing random, unplanned "a$$hole" acts to help his clients.
Just too random from beginning to end, with no build of who was the villain and who we were supposed to like.

I think all 3 main characters were dumb and totally contradicted their personalities throughout the movie, really. Dustin, the needy whiny loverguy, devoted all his commitment to Alexis and in the end, just hands her over like that to Tank? The line "If that ain't love, I dunno what it is," just made me throw my hands up in frustration.
Then there's Alexis, who was SO disappointed that Tank just considered her a job, but wasn't she the one who dumped Dustin and considered Tank a sex-buddy at first? I was surprised Tank didn't get mad when she told Dustin that they weren't together when Dustin caught them together.
And then there's Tank, who blows all his womanizing principles just for a girl who sleeps with him for the fun of it.
Stupidest romantic comedy ever. There wasn't even any chemistry between ANY characters at all from start to finish. Probably the only good couple in this movie were Ami and Dustin at the end!
Now I know never to watch any rom com with Kate Hudson in it, I hated 'how to lose a guy in 10 days' as well.

I thought the whole thing was about Alexis being a bitch(to biggs), and tank being an *beep* and that they were perfect together in the end, because at the end of the day everyone is only in love with themselves and what they see of themselves, in others.

There is actually a point of no return in a relationship, and for theirs, it was when he dropped his pants to the mother.. WTF, woman!?! Ugh. Hated that. Doesn't matter how much you feel for him, how good the sex is, you cannot -- CANNOT come back from that. But the script said that they would, so they did. Ugh. Up until that point, I guess, she was believable and an okay character for me...

Agreed. She broke up with the one guy (who she was barely dating to begin with), and was never really dating the other guy. I don't really think that there was a part in this movie that she was explicitly dating anyone.
Now if one were to have any gripes about Alexis character, it would about the fact that she doesn't really know what she wants and assumed she could screw around a bit and depend on Dusty to wait for her like a little lap dog.

In U.S movies it's alwyas the goody good girl... so when a character like this shows up, it's insane..
