15 Minutes In (spoiler)

So I finished the book today and because I have the copy on my stack of compulsively bought cut price DVDs I sit down to watch it. I know Cooper and Lawrence are in the film because they are on the cover. Which is good because I believe Cooper can be my understanding of Pat and I want to see what Lawrence can do as Tiffany.
Skipping over leaving the hospital (which is not particularly good) and De Niro appears, and this is a problem because much as I like him he's too big for this role and that means the film must be shaped to accommodate another star. Then into the 1st session with Cliff and the whole story of what happened to Pat is told. In the book this only emerged at the end and I think it was important it did so.
Already we're a long way from the story I just read straight through and I'm thinking (1) more wine (2) let's wait for Lawrence to appear and hope for the best.
Glug glug (of wine), fingers crossed, hit play.

OK, so the fault is mine really. Never Ever watch the film or TV adaptation of a book you've loved within 6 months of finishing it. Cooper was OK, though I was a little surprised he didn't muscle up, Lawrence was better. But I was right about Dr Niro and they did build his role at the expense of Weaver (the mom).
Overall they lost a lot of the book and I wish they'd just filmed it as written - it's not a fat tome and they could have done it.
So it goes.
