What a bunch of overrated crap.

Jennifer Lawrence, so ridiculously overrated.
Bradley Cooper. ...meh.
And bob deniro....whatever happened to a once fine actor? Talk about dropped in the middle of 6000 sq miles of dense forest with no compass : lost. No wonder he doesn't seem to give a *beep* anymore when interveiwed.

Totally agree! An Oscar for that??

For real crap try The Fault in Our Stars, Just Friends, That Awkward Moment, This Is Where I Leave You, Horrible Bosses 2,or Tammy. I gave SLP 5/10 but compared to the aforementioned it seems like a 10 and at least professionally made. There are far, far worse things out there. Did you see the boring and overrated The Theory of Everything? For a modern romcom try Trainwreck; it's better than the aforementioned films and it reminded me somewhat of SLP.

More emotion in this film than almost anything I've seen in years. This film is fantastic from Start to Finish. Every line of dialog. Every performance... I dont know how anyone could miss how great this film is. It earned its rating. Critics and Fans have said nothing but great things. ESPECIALLY about those performances you dogged. I'll go with the 80+ Metascore

reply

Agreed. Just watched it and was disappointed....and bored.

Thought it was amazing all the way through. Dinero at his finest. Lawrence and Cooper were amazing. Definitely a film I was not interested in but then watched it and it amazed me. But not everyone sees the same things.

First half of the movie rates at the top with the best movies ever done. It is hilarious, sad, and accurate all at once. This movie portrays the more interesting part of a real world medical issue. It fails to show the depression side of Bipolar disorder, but that part doesn't make good comedy.

The part of the movie from the post Giants game bet to the end is good, but very predictable and unoriginal.

Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper, Robert De Niro, and Chris Tucker all did superb acting performances.

I agree. I sort of gave this movie a chance until the bit where Tiffany starts listing the victories of some sports (baseball or football, can't remember).

Everybody dislike Tiffany, but when she starts talking about sports, suddenly everybody starts to like her   Utter ridiculousness. I just wanted to exit the cinema.

This movie has the same psychological depth of a Mickey Mouse cartoon (and I don't mean to be disrepectful to Walt Disney).

I don't see how you agree with me. You aren't saying what I said. You obviously didn't pay attention to the movie as proven in your other thread. You simply think Tiffany is a nympho which is a simple minded and wrong Mickey Mouse explanation. Maybe you should stick to your cartoons.

Maybe you should read more carefully. You wrote:

This is the part where I agree with you. I too lost interest after this bit.

p.s. if you really think that I watch Mickey Mouse only, this is the list of my favourite movies:

This isn't even close to my view of the movie, so I don't see how you can even be close to agreeing with me. You have also made several comments that would lead me to believe that you actually never watched it or are confusing it with another movie.

Based on your list and bad ratings on newer movies you are obviously biased toward old movies and that is fine. I really doesn't bother me if a movie isn't someone's "cup of tea", but it does bother me when people create troll comments with inaccurate information where they either didn't watch the movie or can't remember the content of the movie. I personally only comment on movies where I know the plot extremely well.

reply

I couldn't agree more with you.

Jennifer is probably the worst actress I've seen in years (at least, in this movie, I haven't seen her in other movies). She is only a pretty face who can't act to save her life. All through this movie she wears the same sulky expression, and she doesn't have the subtlety and depth this role needed.

Pat's parents are just two ridiculous characters, what a shame for De Niro. I hated this movie.

This movie is just all over the place. It did a really half added job at attempting to show us the lives of people that are mentally unstable, none of them really showed any instability except for when it was warranted. It was just a bunch of things happening..

And the whole title of the movie has nothing to do with the movie until like the last 10 minutes when De Niro bets on the game. Which just felt super forced and silly. Super out of context for the entire movie.

I actually wanted to like the film because the trailers made it out to be an interesting drama but I was super underwhelmed and thought that it was an incredibly mediocre movie but with decent performances all around. I am entirely clueless as to how this was nominated for ANY Oscar's that year. The Academy just has a huge hard on for anything David O' Russel. The only good thing he's made to this day is the Fighter. American Hustle tried way to hard to be a Scorsese film but again failed in every department with the exception of the actors again.

SLP - 6/10 overall decent but entirely forgettable

Based on this comment, you are obviously ignorant about people with mental illnesses. If you do a little research you would find that Bradley Cooper nailed the non-depression side of a Bi-polar person. The movie director also has a son who actually has bi-polar disorder and was in the movie as well.

This comment is makes me wonder if you actually watched the movie. The huge majority of the scenes in this movie occur on Sunday afternoons or days when NFL games occur. De Niro is a bookie and handles bets EVERY week. But then again maybe your confusion on the title is related to not understanding the meaning of "Silver Linings".
