one thing I never understood (contains spoilers)

At the beginning of the dance, when Tiffany sees Nikki with Ronnie and Veronica, why does she get so upset? I remember he saying something along the lines of 'you are ruining me.' I get that they had lied to Pat about her showing up, and she's obviously not expecting her to be there, but why is she so angry that she ends up showing up?

reply

Because she loves Pat and she knows Pat loves Nikki

Because she's in love with Pat. She knows that if Pat sees Nikki then he'll most likely forget about her and run back to her. Every time he brought her up it would always bum her out because she's liked him this whole time.

Thank you both!

[To first two replies] Correct. (to original poster) All throughout the dance, there's Veronica (already married to Pat's best friend Ron), Nikki (Pat's actual original girlfriend before he permanently and securely hooks up with Tiffany), but the ONE girl that Pat DOES want all throughout, but who he DOESN'T see, but who IS there, is Tiff herself.

Only he'd ORIGINALLY been WITH NIKKI, is there with her, ergo dancing with her, but then along comes Tiff, SOHHHHHH..she turns, feels rejected, starts walking slowly and running away...REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEALLLY really FAST only to turn around, make up with Pat, leave Nikki to go on with her own life, and walk off with Pat to a happy ending.(Nikki already was with someone else) Great flick.Glad you liked it, and thanks to the above two responders for answering (something I already knew Happy Holiday weekend and hope you had a good and happy rest of your lives (You too, Pat, Tiffany, Nikki, Veronica, Ronnie,etc.etc.)

She pretended that the letters were from Nikki, and it's likely that Pat will actually ask Nikki about them and discover the fraud. Given Pat's volatile personality, he may hate her for lying to him and refuse to ever deal with her again. By this time she is emotionally bound up with Pat and it would be devastating to lose him. ( In fact, though the movie doesn't say so explicitly, I thought she was considering committing suicide when she ran out)

In reality, Pat has already figured out the trick and decided to forgive her.
