Yeah Hemingway was a real SOB for doing that to us.

The scene when he finishes reading Farewell to Arms had me laughing because years ago when I read that I threw it against the wall like he threw it out the window.

IMHO I think using terms like "bi-polar" are mainly dreamt up those sheltered inexperienced individuals who have never really lived and lost. On the other hand not having experienced could also make you feel pretty bad. But it is insulting and diminishes us as human beings, turns us into machines which only makes everyone in society feel worse.

Western medicine amounts to pretty good garage mechanics coupled with quack poisons designed to mask our symptoms that only make our bodies weaker. I'll sum it up like that and if you have a problem with it I'll cite sources, many from the horses' mouths admitting like.

It also concentrates on internal factors, because if it looked at external factors in mental health it would show how sick our society really is!

The Lord of the Flies scene was funny too.

I know what you mean. Thinking of our mind and soul only as a brain with neurons firing that is merely a biological machine is not very romantic.

But then think about how many connections neurons can make in our brain. I think there are more possible connections that stars in the galaxy, so we are still very unique. There is a magic in that too.

And there is another kind of magic in realizing that we are all very much alike. Your problems aren't that unique.

Psychology using different simplified models and labels to explain and categorize things doesn't cheapen us. And not every therapist is a drug peddler. Just need to find a good one.

In any case Pat was clearly rather unhinged and paranoid and "whiteknuckling" it his whole life didn't exactly work out either. He needed help and drugs can help sometimes. He wasn't traumatized or neurotic he had a chemical imbalance.
