Jlaw performance is...

Jennifer Lawrence is so BAD in Silver Linings Playbook, every line she delivers feels forced and too rehearsed

She prevailed against four superior performances such as Emmanuelle Riva in "Amour", Jessica Chastin in "Zero Dark Thirty" and Naomi Watts in "The Impossible" and Quvenzhané Wallis in "The Beasts Of The Southern Wild"

That Oscar winning performance has not aged well. It's in the same category as Gwyneth Paltrow in "Shakespeare In Love" and Reese Witherspoon in "Walk The Line"

Jennifer Lawrence's win was basically because they didn't know who else to give it to. Jessica Chastain was in a controversial film that people felt supported torture in Cuba plus she was kind of stoic in it. Naomi Watts in The Impossible was just functional and wasn't even that big of a role. Quvandjetie Wallis or however you spell it was a child and Emanuelle Riva was a french actress they never heard of and probably didn't watch the movie. She had a big publicity push but it was too late in the voting process.

Lawrence had given a popular performance in Winter's Bone and made them a lot of money with Hunger Games movies so they gave it to her.

She's fine in the film but her defeating Riva's great performance is an indictment of how negligible the Oscars are as a barometer of quality. Academy voters love their princesses - see Emma Stone's win over the magnificent Isabelle Huppert a few years later as another recent example.

I felt she was a little overrated in this. However i've only seen 2 of the films the other actresses were nominated alongside her in 2012 Oscars; Emmanuelle Riva (Amour) and Quvenzhane Wallis (Beasts of the Southern Wild) and she had more range then those two, so maybe she deserved it. I honestly preferred her performance in Winters Bone though.

Not really a great year.
