Which one did you watch first
Which one did you like best?
I have a theory that because they're so similar, most people prefer the one they viewed first, me included. I saw Quarantine first, and I liked it slightly better.

Rec 8/10

OP I think you're on the right track.
But with me personally I would normally prefer the original, although I was definitely disturbed more by Quarantine's visuals. The first old lady in her room in particular was way creepier in Quarantine in my personal opinion, and the rest of the movie wasn't too much different.
I thought both were good. I saw [Rec] first, and I liked it better.

I just watched both today for the first time. I watched Rec first since it was more acclaimed. I liked Rec far better than Quarantine. The reason why Rec is the better film is because the faux-doc style presented felt a lot more realistic than Quarantine did because the camera had a lesser production value to it. Overall the camera work was better, there were no recognizable actors to take you out of the film which is kinda important when you are presenting something as a real doc, the female lead in Rec was a much better actress than Jennifer Carpenter, the subtitles actually contributed to the realistic feel that this was something really happening, the story in Rec was better because Quarantine added a bunch of typical Hollywood over the top gore, plot devices and scenes which werent necessary.
I rated Rec a 9 and Quarantine a 7. I give a lot of 7's but hardly any 9's.

Totally agree, though I rate Rec 8 and Quarantine about 7.5. Rec is slightly better, but they are both damn good.
Two things to add to your post though, the story in Rec about the possessed girl really made the movie that much creepier, and when you actually see her.. *beep*!
And Rec felt much more like an amateur/beginners work (not the movie itself, but the documentary aspect of it).
Best horror I have seen in a good while, if not ever.
