I'm utterly creeped out every time. That Goddamn skinny freak really comes out of nowhere. When I first saw the movie, I was shocked and disturbed at the sight of it. I still feel repulsed by it - in a good way.
I wouldn't mind if anyone recommended me more horror in that vein! Something that gradually turns more fvcked up. Makes it more effective than something that's just all-out throughout (although arguably this one is so, but in another way, yeah?).

I was a bit disappointed with that one. First of all, I was lead to believe the monsters would have a bigger role in it. What we got instead was religious nutjobs, who I found to be nothing but silly.

Totally agree with you OP, the emaciated zombie aka the Medeiros Girl really was the stuff of nightmares! It was so creepy when you first see it's silhoutte at the other end of the corridor and the quick glimpses of it lurching around carrying that hammer <shudder>
There are two other movies that immediately spring to mind which contain blood freezing, hair on the back of your neck style creepy imagery which make going to the bathroom on your own at night a worrying scenario lol
These are:-
Ringu (you may have already seen this but the ending freaked me out in the same way REC's ending did)
Noroi The Curse (another Japanese horror flick, however this beast is filmed in the same style as REC. The mockumentary contains some deeply unsettling and creepy imagery throughout, but beleive me when I say the bone chilling finale freaked me out so much I couldnt get the imagery out of my head for weeks after!)
I can't recall if I've seen Ringu... I know I've seen the remake, but that's all I know for sure. I guess there's no harm in seeing a movie twice, if I have in fact seen it.
I know I have seen Noroi The Curse (though I do not remember what I thought of it).
