Zombies or possessed?

Hey guys,

I am building a zombie movie collection and IMDb pointed me to [Rec] and the sequel, since it had the "zombie" keyword. I am a huge fan of both movies, not so much for the third, but that's a different story.

Anyhow, I never thought [Rec] had zombies, but evil possessed beings. Case in point the Christian faith plays a huge role with the priest researching possessions and exorcisms.

I have therefore decided not to include [Rec] in the zombie collection, but it would suit a great "True Evil" collection, which I will be building later.

What are your thoughts, are those zombies or possessed people?

They are demonic beings, but then again - what is a zombie? The creatures in Rec do behave somewhat like zombies do and seem to have below average intelligence, but are smart enough to open roller doors below.

It becomes clear what these creatures are if you watch Rec 2, because it explains the situation of what is happening in that house in more detail.

Good question. As a matter of fact, "Zombie" used to mean "Back from the dead" until 15 years ago or so. Now it means "Infected with a virus" or "Back from the dead due to a virus infection".

I would've said they're "infected" instead of the Z-word (they're not reanimated corpses by any means), but I see somebody already beat me to spoiling the movie for you... Yup they're possessed people alright, which in my opinion became the most controversial / disappointing plot twist in recent movie history.
