shareSome people, such as myself, are visually impaired, and reading subtitles is difficult or impossible (harder at the theater). I just had to say that this since so many people complain about Americans being too lazy or narrow-minded to watch movies with subtitles. There are other, legitimate reasons to want alternatives to subtitles. I can only watch the occasional movie like this, so I try to stick to ones that get a lot of attention (City of God, Yojimbo, etc).
Of course, dubbing is usually awful, but I'll usually enjoy an English-language remake over a subtitled or dubbed version. Still, it's interesting to see some movies made outside of Hollywood and English-speaking countries, especially the genre type movies that I like. Something non-recoverable gets lost in translation.
Things happened so fast in [rec] that, while I could generally follow what was going on and being said, I think I was left feeling underwhelmed by what I had heard was such a great film. I wonder if I would enjoy Quarantine any better? Now that I know what happens, it probably wouldn't be much different of an experience.
The penthouse scene at the end was pretty creepy, but other than that, I didn't feel much tension during the movie, nor care much about the characters. Good but not great.
