Manuela Velasco was more believable as a reporter, yet attractive as Angela. I didn't get either vibe from Jennifer Carpenter. That being, I felt the way they wrote Angela in the remake was more traditional of horror films: rather vain, vapid and a bit of the valley girl side.
I didn't find Jennifer Carpenter's performance believable at all. The only scene I liked her in was the ending scene when she's pulled into the dark.

I enjoyed both performances. Carpenter was great IMO, that was around the same time she started getting really good on Dexter (season 4, the scene where she breaks down in the parking lot) and on Quarantine I actually felt sorry for her during the final scenes. That said, I still prefer Manuela in [REC].
