anyone knows how the first old woman caught the virus?

Did she open the attic?

reply

I haven't seen the film in a while, but if I remember correctly it was never explained.

Small SPOILERS for Rec 2:

In the sequel, it was stated that there were insect bites on the Medeiros girl. That's probably how the old woman got infected.

reply

The little girls dog might have been infected as well spreading the disease, that seems to be the start of the infection for Rec 3 at least.

reply

The health inspector who came into the building to check everyone mentioned the dog that was brought into the vet with an "unknown disease" - it was in a coma and when awoken, became very vicious and attacked the other pets.

The Medeiros girl must've infected the dog somehow, and it spread to the other residents (the old woman first, and so on..)

The first reply mentioned insect bites - perhaps fleas?

reply

Heh, zombie fleas

reply

Padre Alberta (taking care of medeiros) took it upon himself to conduct experiments on children, rats etc so, if a rat got out and was somewhere near max (Jennifer's dog) they could have exchanged Sylvia or something like that. Then Jennifer claps or kisses max. The old lady may have been close to Mari-Carmen and her daughter and gave hugs and kisses etc then she bites the columbian girl and so on

reply

Who the hell is Sylvia?

They said something like the old woman is a crazy cat lady. Perhaps she got it from the cats.

One thing I always wondered....

1. How did the dog catch the virus. I dont think it is ever stated though, so we all have to guess. But I did wonder how the dog get it.

2. Of course, how did the old lady get it.

reply

What I also wonder about is that it was stated by several inhabitants that the old lady was fond of cats, but we never see any cats anywhere. They are probably infected too.
