Those are some big apartments.
Those halls are long. Were those condos or something?

Pretty standard apartments in old buildings in Spain. It was actually shot in a normal apartment building in the middle of Barcelona
shareHi,I'm from Barcelona.
Yes those halls are long because those apartments are old. They were built in the end of the 19th century begining of the 20th century, in middle class, middle-upper class- upper class areas of the city and they are all big with long halls/corridors. Some 19th buildings have huge apartments that go from the front part the building to the back part of the building.
My ophthalmologist has his office at one old apartment dating I guess from the end of the 19th century begining of the 20th and it is huge and I can only see the part where the office is, the other part is closed but you can see how big and beautiful it is. Ah! And also, one of the caractheristics of these buildings is that they have wooden elevators some of them with a seat inside it so you can seat while you wait until it arrives to your floor. They are very nice.
I did love the architecture in the building. Quite interesting!
shareHi yes:) And as the second answer said(I didn't see it before), the building that appears in the movie is a normal building, not very nice and it is ordinary and from a normal neighborhood. In fact I remember that it was quite ugly and not well mantained. You can find these old buildings all over Barcelona city or all over Spain and I would say all over Europe or at least in countries like France, Italy, Germany and others. In Barcelona they are caracteristic from an area of the city called the "Eixample" which began to be built in the 19th century following a style called "Modernisme" or Art Nouveau in french. There are more normal buildings like the one in the movie and others which are incredible with lots of details. I think that the famous architect Gaudí, followed this style.

I'm Portuguese and as a child I lived in a apartment very much like the ones shown in Rec. Which made the movie hit a particular chord with me.
My old house also had an inner court and I think Rec's building had one as well as they mention it at one point.
What the hell is a condo? I hear Americans talk about them all the time and just assumed it was another word for apartment. Which here in Britain would be called a flat.
