Where are the Cats?

I just rewatched Rec, it is every bit as scary the second time around, but there is one thing that made me wonder. The old lady is said to live alone with a bunch of cats and yet we never see any of them. Not as zombies, not as normal corpses, or as living.

I wonder if the filmmakers just forgot all about the cats, I could swear they are equally absent in the second movie.

As soon as the old lady started to manifest absentmindedness those cats would have went straight in to a curry at the Chinese family's house.
