Do you Say Rec?

Saying Rec just sounds weird because no one ever says that. It's not really even a word but that is the title I guess. But it's short for Record right? Or is it Recording? So maybe it should actually be called one of those? Sometimes titles aren't pronounced exactly how they're spelled, like no one says Sesevenen when they're talking about Se7en. I've never actually said it out loud but if I wanted to RECommend (hahaha) it to some friends what do you think I should be saying?

reply

Yeah, I told a friend of mine about this great Spanish horror movie called [Rec] and he typed in Wreck in the IMDb search bar.

It's easier just saying Record I suppose.

I always call it Record 1 or 2, but the vast majority of people I've talked to called it REC. I think that's incorrect though.

How is it incorrect to call it "REC" when that's what the films called?

reply

I believe that when something is titled with an abbreviation, it is proper to pronounce the abbreviation, either as a syllable if that makes sense, or as individual letters if the letters don't form a syllable (like "NSA"). Do not expand the abbreviation to "record."

Yeah, I saw "rec" as in "wreck".
